What
is a crystal and gemstone?
A mineral is by definition a crystal. A crystal is a substance that
has a constant regular shape. Even when ground down the substance
retains the shape of the original crystal it came from – microscopically.
A gemstone is a mineral (crystal) that has properties such as colour
to make them attractive, incorporating the colour vibration as well.
For example Opal, Amber, Jet are considered gemstones. The stones
emit an energy that is electromagnetic of nature. Once our mind
is feeling good, amazing things happen – the body is able
to heal a lot quicker and more positive things happen to and around
us. Change your mind or way of thinking and you can change your
circumstances.
There
are two types of crystal – one is man-made and the other is
natural (grown in nature). Most are from Earth except Tektites or
Moldavite, which are believed come from outer space. The man-made
crystal (Austrian, German and Bohemian) is really glass with approximately
one-third lead oxide added to make it easier to cut and polish giving
off the beautiful rainbow effect. These are great for bringing in
the rainbow vibration. Natural Quartz Crystal is silicon dioxide
and is one of the most widely found minerals in the Earth. It is
mainly found as milky-white (Clear Quartz - feminine quality); clear
(Clear Quartz - masculine quality); purple ranging in shades (Amethyst);
yellow/gold (Citrine); pink (Rose Quartz) and smoky-grey to dark
brown (Smoky Quartz). The quartz family does not only consist of
these five crystals but these are the main ones with terminations
or points at one or two ends.
Quartz
is used in watches and in ultrasonic sound (important for safety
of submarines);
Tourmaline is used in pressure gauges;
Calcite is used in production of chewing gum, glass, rubber and
toothpaste;
Mica is used in manufacture of wallpaper, paint and lubricants.

Why
use crystals and gemstones?
There's nothing New Age about crystals and gemstones - they have
been prized and used since ancient times as healing objects, meditation
tools and medicines in the form of elixirs/tinctures. They have
been used as talismans and amulets for protection and assistance.
References to crystals are in many sacred teachings around the world
and in both the Old and New Testament of the Bible. They have the
ability to amplify and transform energy therefore when kept in your
personal space they will help transmute non beneficial energy into
an energy that is beneficial to you and yours. When we create a
thought the quartz, in particular, amplifies, clarifies and magnifies
this into our energy field (aura) and sets the body about healing
itself.
There is consciousness in all forms of matter and the stones are
no exception. The stones aid us in attunement with different aspects
of ourselves – accepting who we are warts and all. By using
and giving as gifts the stones you are giving the gift of wellbeing,
love and positive re-inforcement to you and yours. The crystals
are non selective so be aware of your thoughts – the old adage
be careful what you ask for because you will get it applies very
strongly here. The crystals put a positive energy into your aura
but if you keep the same old negative thinking going overriding
the positive input of the stones and you will find life’s
lessons a little harder.
Exposure to quartz crystals will energise and harmonise the body,
stimulate mental activity, help crystallise positive ideas, bring
confidence and success, open you up to the excitement of life and
enhance the healing energies of the body. They help us evolve spiritually
by restoring our belief in ourselves and the oneness of self with
others. As we work with the crystals and gemstones we assist them
in their evolvement as well. This will mean that occasionally you
will find the stones alter or lose colour. A lot of the stones nowadays
are colour enhanced and will fade over time. Do not be dismayed
as they retain the properties of the stone regardless of brightness
of colour.
